For better or for worse, many consumers are demanding their laptops be extraordinarily portable and efficient. As a result, we’ve seen incredibly slim laptop models unveiled from the Apple with the likes of their MacBook Air model as well as Toshiba’s update to it’s Portege R500. Both of these are ultralight thin laptops designed for maximum portability and versatility, even if they lack the processing power and hardware configuration options of their bulkier counterparts. In that vein, the Lenovo ThinkPad X300 series brings to the table what many consumers like about the MacBook Air, such as 13.3-inch display, a thickness of less than one inch, and a full size keyboard. It also adds additional features that the MacBook fails to provide such as a built in DVD burner, WWAN connectivity and GPD capability.

Dell Inspiron 1720 thin laptop

Intel Core 2 Duo processor T5550
Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium SP1
2 GB Memory
320 GB Hard Drive
17″ WXGA display
Starting from £469

Dell continue to create the best bargain laptops around and the Dell Inspiron 1720 shows this. One of the first things you will notice about this laptop is the fact that it’s very sturdy. Obviously, Dell have noticed some of the durability flaws of their previous generation laptops and started to create notebooks with thicker, maybe stronger plastic (or maybe this one is just built better). With this laptop, you are able to choose from 8 main colours for the lid, which can be very stylish. When you open the lid of the laptop the first thing you notice is the classic silver Dell look.

Advent 5302 thin laptop review

Intel Core 2 Duo processor T5550
Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium
2 GB Memory
250 GB Hard Drive
15.4″ WXGA display
Starting from £399

I was never really a fan of any Advent laptop what so ever, until now. The Advent 5302 completely changed my mind about their ability to make great laptops. Starting with the looks, it is completely covered in black, which looks very impressive considering old Advent laptops have been known to look rather dull. As regards to its size, it is very slim looking from behind the screen and under the keyboard. The weight is impressive too weighing in at a very light 2.9kg. This weight makes the laptop very good for mobile use as its easy to carry around and take anywhere you like.

256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 graphics card
4GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2
Windows Vista Home Premium Edition
2X 320 GB hard drives
Starting from £499

I’ve heard many Dell customers complain that when choosing a Dell laptop that suits their needs, they were having trouble finding a proper balance between price and affordability. The entry level Inspiron line provided low-end needs for PC users just needing basic features and hardware for their laptop. Those looking for an all-out gaming/multimedia PC that could handle whatever you could throw at it was provided by their high-end XPS line of PCs, but there was little in between the two. Dell answered the call in June, releasing their Studio 17 model, which falls into the category of thin laptops, and aims to be a midpoint in price and power between the XPS and Inspiron lines. In that regard, they manage to deliver.
